Every year, I fail at blogging in July. Last year I wrote something like seven entries. Same story the year before. This year, I promised myself that I wouldn’t drop off the face of the earth.
Yeah, about that…
Anyway.
A few weeks ago, Brand About Town sent me a gorgeous faded denim jacket from The Gap. You may well be wondering why there is no photo of me sporting this fine piece of attire. The answer is simple, friends: It is FIFTY FIVE FREAKING DEGREES in San Francisco, which means that the wool coat has been taken off its two-week spot on the bench. Come September, when summer finally arrives in this fair city, you’ll see pictures. This jacket is great! The denim is soft and thin, just how summer denim should be, and the cut is spot-on. Gap apparently released an entire line of faded denim this summer. I say “apparently,” because AGAIN: FIFTY FIVE DEGREES. Ahem.
The best part of my little gift from the Gap, though, is that I once again have the pleasure of passing a little bit of the fun on to you. Sitting on my desk next to me is one final “pants certificate.” This little paper, worth well over its weight in denim, will be sent out to one lucky person. Want to be the winner? Here’s the scoop:
In the comments below, I want you to tell me your favorite thing about July. For an additional entry, submit a second comment containing a photo of your favorite July-related moment (just paste the html into the comments box). For one more entry, tweet about this giveaway including a link and the tag #bywpants, then come back here and tell me that you did it. That’s three possible entries!
You have until next Friday, July 30. And maybe, possibly, potentially, I might write another entry by then. But you know, breaking my own low-post record has its merits, too.
GET TO IT, FOLKS! And good luck!
Disclosure: I received this jacket for free, courtesy of Brand About Town. I think I said that effectively in the post, but… you know. Just in case it wasn’t clear, and someone legal is interested. It was free, yo.

My favourite thing about July… is my birthday! It falls on the 31st so it’s always something to look forward to when the month is either a) too cold (in Sydney) or b) too hot (here in London!)
That reminds me- I need to use the Gap gift card I have!
My favorite thing about July is that often on this side of the Bay it’s 70. I haven’t worn a coat in months.
I’m pretty fond of my birthday (yesterday), and fireworks, but I think my favorite is spending time at my family’s lake house in upstate NY. There’s nothing like sitting on the dock late at night when everything is peaceful, listening to the waves lap against the boats and the stays clinking against masts. I head back on Saturday for a week of vacation and I can’t wait.

My favorite thing about July is that, for a long time, it was ‘Harry Potter’ month – when the new books would be released and I would trudge out with friends at midnight bearing our magical wrist-bands entitling us to copies of the precious book, wait in Barnes and Noble’s strangely efficient line and then stay up all night eating junk food and reading! Even a few years later, July brings the good memories back. I’m a super nerdy book geek. And Harry Potter’s fictional birthday is in July, too. Okay, I’m going to stop extending my nerdiness now.

Band Camp.
My favorite thing about July is trips to the lake! Swimming, zooming around on my parents’ boat, frozen drinks, etc., etc. Love it!
I also tweeted it! ME WANT PANTS!
My favorite thing about July? Food. Popsicles, fresh fruit smoothies, grilling. Yum.
And here’s a link of another thing I love — camping. In July. In Yosemite (from last year):

My favorite thing about July is PANTS! Or, NOT WEARING PANTS! I mean, wearing shorts. Because the weather is hot. Yep.
I love to eat snacks on sticks in July. Like popsicles. Or fried seafood. Whatever, man.
That last comment is supposed to have this photo in it: http://www.flickr.com/photos/maliavale/4809048020/
I pasted the Flickr HTML but it doesn’t seem to have taken. So, yeah.
FREE PANTS!
…going peach picking, followed by a bbq, followed by fresh peaches and vanilla ice cream…
My favorite thing about July has been my baby puppy, Archie. He’s a handful, but worth every minute.
Oh, oh! I need a new jacket! For the fall, I mean. Not right now, since it’s 90 degrees and full-on humidity every day.
Also, I don’t know when the switch happened with your blog but apparently I missed it. I suddenly thought to myself, where has Abby been?!! And here you are. Problem solved.
My favorite thing about July is fresh berries. All of ‘em: blueberries, raspberries, black raspberries, wineberries, blackberries, whatever is growing. They make me feel like a conquistador(a?). There is nothing like searching the whole bush for that one perfect, plump berry, trying to predict whether it will be sweet or tart, and then popping it in your mouth to find that YES! You have INDEED found the VERY BEST BERRY IN EXISTENCE. And there has NEVER BEEN ANOTHER BERRY AS GOOD AS THIS ONE. You know what I mean.
And then, of course, you have to do it all over again, because one perfect berry isn’t enough. Surely there is one even better on that bush, somewhere. Or even if it’s not better, you have to search for another great one, just to replicate the experience.
I think that fat July berries are so delicious and so much fun that they could probably bring peace to the world. I remarked to my husband that possibly we could brighten things in the middle East by bringing some ripe berry bushes over there. I just don’t think it’s possible to be angry and full of berries at the same time.
You’d think a photographer would have a picture related to this, but I do not. Ah, well.
July for me is synonymous with Adventure! I enjoy my summers off and try to plan a climbing trip or some other adventure every year. This summer it was a climbing trip in Squamish, British Columbia. Gorgeous!!
My adventure photo from Squamish taken just a couple of days ago!
